Works have begun on site for the refurbishment of the University of Huddersfield’s Ramsden Building. We are working alongside main contractor Henry Boot Construction as lead consultant, architect and principal designer BR and CDM advisory roles to revitalise the beautiful Grade II Listed building.

The proposed refurbishments and remodelling will offer modern teaching, learning, and office facilities, created to be accessible for all users. The proposals also considered improving social and interactive areas, ensuring high functionality and utilisation. The ground floor will house the international study group, providing a combination of classrooms and social breakout areas. The International Office and Postgraduate Research Group will be on the first floor and on the second floor, a reimagined double height event space showcasing the building’s original, large stained-glass windows alongside a PC lab.

Works on the project will form part of the University’s drive towards decarbonisation of their estate, creating a Net Zero in operation building. This will be achieved by a full strip out and replacement of aged electrical and mechanical systems and the installation of new air source heat pumps, which provide heating to the building.

All refurbishments made to the building will remain sympathetic to its heritage. Original ceiling features and hardwood timber floors will be uncovered so that the building’s historical characteristics can be celebrated.
