Becoming carbon neutral by 2030 is a clear commitment of our practice, shaping the way we approach design decisions and our wider responsibility to the built environment.
Sustainability in the built environment is an ever-growing responsibility for practices across the UK, particularly as the construction industry contributes significantly to the world’s carbon emissions.
Our Commitment
As architects, we understand the responsibility we have to promote and design sustainable, energy efficient buildings. It is also just as important that we maintain this approach with our day-to-day business activities to improve our own impact and to lead and encourage those who we work with to do the same. GSSArchitecture has committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and has a projected pathway to Net Zero by 2045.
As part of our commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2030, we have an accredited ISO:14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) which is regularly audited. This system includes processes to promote sustainability in how we operate and the projects we deliver. We benchmark our projects to ensure we continue to improve and deliver innovative, sustainable buildings.
The principles are:
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
- Prevent pollution.
- Comply with legislation.
- Set targets.
- Collaboration.
As a practice, we have collaborated with SMART Carbon to implement our own PPN 06/21 compliant Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP), benchmarking in 2023. Our CRP is openly reported and can be found via the below link.
