We are delighted to announce that construction for Teesside University’s brand-new Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre (NZIIC) has now started.

The NZIIC will support the ongoing drive for clean energy and position Teesside firmly at the heart of the UK’s green industrial revolution, providing a focus for major investment. It also supports the University’s commitment to becoming a Net Zero Institution by 2030.

The ambitious new development will bring together expert insight, resources, and partnerships to grow net zero capabilities and opportunities; placing the region at the forefront of the clean energy agenda and helping to create hundreds more clean energy jobs.

Simon Rennison-Rae, Partner at GSS and head of the Newcastle Studio, said, “Set to be a national centre of excellence, the NZIIC draws on GSS’s expertise in both Education and Commercial sectors but also combines it with our sustainable and net zero credentials. Not only will the NZIIC be an area for Net Zero development, but the building itself will be classed as Net Zero and will be constructed using suitable techniques and materials to minimise the carbon footprint together with BREEAM Outstanding. We recognise how important this building will become and how it can demonstrate our understanding and we are looking forward to bringing this sustainable project to life.”

This is the latest in a long list of sustainable projects in our portfolio and we are working as Architect, Lead Consultant and Principal Designer on this scheme alongside Summers Inman, Cundall, Billinghurst George and Partners and Main Contractor, Robertsons.
