Following an extensive refurbishment, work on King’s Gate at Newcastle University have been completed.
Since its opening in 2009, King’s Gate has operated as a ‘one stop shop’ for student services. More recently, Newcastle University have recognised that the way students access support has evolved, and have made changes to the space that reflect this. They have consulted with students and colleagues to reimagine a new, flexible space which responds to changing student needs and expectations.
We have worked closely with fit out contractor, Overbury, to improve the spaces for students, ensuring the environment better suits their needs. Level 1 and 2 has therefore been redesigned to consider more student focused activities including additional event space, providing further room for collaboration and engagement. As a key point of contact for students, the designs have also established a warmer and more welcoming environment for visitors coming to King’s Gate.

The project is a massive uplift to the quality of spaces for both staff and students alike, supporting the evolving needs of the university community.”

We have a strong working relationship with Newcastle University, and the work at King’s Gate is one of numerous schemes the practice has delivered in partnership with the University. Other projects have included the recent refurbishment for the School of Dental Sciences and the continuing work on the Interdisciplinary Care and Education Hub.
