Senior Partner at GSSArchitecture, Tom Lyons, recently crossed the pond to visit the New York School of Interior Design to continue to work with students he has been tutoring.

Working as an external international tutor, Tom has been giving tutorials to the students whilst in New York, listening to their presentations and marking their final year assessments with other tutors. The students are currently working towards an undergraduate degree in Interior Design, with the first cohort of students Tom has mentored graduating this year.

An architect celebrating 35 years at GSS this month, Tom has a wealth of knowledge and experience in design and architecture. He comments, “I remember being an undergraduate and knowing how daunting it can be when you’re figuring out what career to choose. Having an interior design degree from the New York School can set you up for a multitude of careers across the world.

“It was great to visit the students and view their work in person for the first time since the pandemic. There is a great pool of talent at the university and I’m looking forward to seeing where their careers take them!”

The students are currently working on a very wide range of projects including arts centres, a cruise ship, schools, urban farms, clinics, and residential conversions.

Tom has also previously worked with De Montfort University’s School of Architecture as an external tutor and examiner to help nurture and advise the next generation of architects in the UK.
