We are very proud to announce that Shannon Walker has been shortlisted for the New Professional of the Year Award at the G4C Constructing Excellence Awards 2023!

Since joining GSSArchitecture’s Newcastle Studio in 2017, Shannon has played a vital role in the growth and development of the Practice. As the first GSS employee to progress their architectural studies through the apprenticeship route, Shannon has paved the way for future generations within the practice and wider industry.

Now qualified, Shannon is working to promote local talent by engaging and providing support, guidance and assistance to the student community following a similar path and has been an asset by mentoring those currently undertaking their studies.

She was responsible for the introduction of the in-house Wellbeing Champions and working group who are responsible for promoting improved health and wellbeing of our people, as well as communicating the latest technologies and design standards that improve health and wellbeing for our building users.

Shannon continues to be a driven and valued member of the team and is always willing to get involved with initiatives that raise awareness on topics she is passionate about. She played an active role in the “Building Better Futures” campaign, which aimed to stimulate discussion and promote positive role models within the industry, and to educate careers advisors of the variety of opportunities available to women in construction.
