Feasibility studies are an extremely important part of the development process. By carefully mapping out your options, risks, constraints, and opportunities, we can present creative proposals and scheme appraisals that are deliverable, viable and fit for purpose. Developing your brief is fundamental to this process.

How can a Feasibility Study help you?

The main purpose of a feasibility study is to investigate and evaluate the potential of a site or an existing building. It will comprise a wide range of relevant details in a clear, easy-to-read report. This includes local site history, key site or building features, relevant planning policies, and an assessment of the main constraints and opportunities. A good feasibility study will present you with clear options on how to maximise your project potential and to make sure that the scheme delivers against all of the key drivers and end-user requirements which will be determined through a well-structured stakeholder consultation process.

Crucially, a good feasibility study will include a high-level budget estimate for the works and also make recommendations about the most appropriate procurement options available, ensuring that the feasibility study is a solid starting point for your journey.

This collaborative process starts with a meeting on site, where we will listen to you and your initial thoughts. We will then begin our research based on your needs and ideas.

Our highly experienced teams work on a wide variety of projects, ranging in both sector and size. This means that our knowledge, experience and ‘lessons learnt’ can be brought to benefit your feasibility brief. This will allow your dedicated project team to explore all the options quickly and effectively, arriving at an appropriate project delivery strategy.

We will work together with you to establish what additional input and services you will require at the feasibility stage, and during the later design stages, to deliver a robust and well-considered feasibility study. Our experience also extends to planning matters and the planning process. We will also advise on a planning strategy and work with your local authority to deliver your vision. Our specialist Conservation and Heritage team can input into your feasibility study if required.

Even at feasibility stage, we will engage with our specialist in-house teams to explore any added value through sustainable opportunities, Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) options and the integration of health and wellbeing into your design solutions.

What does a feasibility study cover?

Our feasibility studies are tailored to your specific needs and project requirements. We will start by working together with you in a methodical way to fully understand your key drivers and to agree on a detailed scope.

Typically, our feasibility studies will cover the following key considerations:

  • Client brief and stakeholder consultation.
  • Site analysis.
  • Sustainable development.
  • Accessibility/disability requirements.
  • Architectural concept design options.
  • Planning and local authority consents.
  • Project programme/timeline.
  • Outline budget/costs.
  • Health and safety.
  • Risk mitigation strategy.
  • Conclusions, recommendations, and next steps.

Collaboration with other consultants

Collaboration with other consultants is often a key requirement in assessing the feasibility of a project, and we can recommend trusted supply chain partners to assist with providing early commercial advice, development appraisals or outline business case input to support you. This ensures that timescales, cost, and deliverability are considered hand-in-hand with design solutions to provide you with a robust and detailed feasibility study.

The finished feasibility study will also include ‘next steps’ advice in terms of planning, funding, and viability to allow you to make well-informed decisions on the best way forward.
