Reading Sports Centre

We were appointed as Architects to design a new sports centre at the University of Reading. This facility is one of the best equipped university sports centres in the country.

The project involved demolishing two squash courts to provide space for a two-storey extension to an existing building. Both areas were fully refurbished and combined to provide a state-of-the-art sports centre with cutting-edge resources.

The new sports centre is equipped with every possible variety of cardio vascular and weight training equipment and supported by high quality audio-visual monitors and speakers to help maintain the dynamics in the area. A key design feature is the special coloured wall lighting, which helps to provide a unique atmosphere.

All changing and toilet facilities were also refurbished and upgraded, together with special facilities for those with disabilities, including a platform lift to link both floors.

Providing facilities for five-a-side football, badminton, basketball, volleyball, hockey and indoor cricket, the sports centre also has a large sports hall which provides a valuable resource to the local community as well as to university students and staff.
