Designed to be an exemplary institution of its kind, this project consisted of the significant remodelling of a live medical building, which is occupied by the University and shared with the NHS Trust. The project focuses on Level 07 of the Dental Sciences School, which had become both mechanically unreliable and unable to meet the needs of the school. The aspirations of the project were to design a space which could offer students world-leading skills training, equipping them with the knowledge needed to enter an increasingly digital workplace.

As Lead Consultant and Architect we have led designs for an exceptional suite of multifunctional, digitally capable specialist teaching spaces with digital VR facilities that will allow the next generation of Newcastle University students to develop, enhance and excel in their clinical dental training, taking those skills into workplaces around the world. This project has given us new opportunities for delivery and innovation in clinical teaching and learning.

Appointed through the NEUPC Framework, we have collaborated with Newcastle University and Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and are leading a multi-discipline team including Robertson Group, CAD21, Fairhurst and Identity Consult on this exciting project.
