Sessions House

Originally built as a public assembly room, the building was used as a law court up until 1991. Over the centuries, it had become the focus of the County’s penitentiary and municipal administration, which also included a police station and a prison. It is consequently of huge local and national significance, and we were delighted to be appointed as Architects to design the main internal works at Sessions House.

The project involved converting the law court’s former entrance into a new main visitors’ entrance, whilst also making other provisions such as improving external and internal access and providing disabled WC facilities. Works also included a reception desk designed to complement, but not mimic, the late 17th century setting, a frameless glass lobby and new display cabinets.
