LearnSpace

Commissioned by the Education Funding Agency (EFA), this project transformed a warehouse unit into an education based research and development centre, together with a small training area. LearnSpace is used to experiment with and understand how spaces affect children's learning, allowing Teachers and students to develop best practice techniques, layouts and designs. A significant number of partners were committed to the refurbishment of the building in order to create a dynamic and flexible space.

The building is open plan with the ability to subdivide the spaces with a series of folding screens and furniture, maximising the efficiency of space within the existing building envelope while being as flexible as possible.

The overall concept of the design provided an opportunity to reconfigure and visually improve a sub-standard building, and a new street façade both secures access to the external area and plays a visual game between internal and external spaces.
